Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes, hypnosis is a safe and natural state that we use to help you access your inner resources and creativity. It is something you choose to engage in, and you always have complete control. You can open your eyes and move about at any time, but you’ll probably not because hypnosis used in most sessions is based around guided relaxation and visualisation.

I can’t make you do anything, you will most probably remember much of what I say and it’s a very enjoyable experience. Many people say it feels a bit like really relaxed daydreaming. You don’t even have to close your eyes if you don’t want to – just don’t stare at me because it weirds me out!

  • Whilst for most issues we would see each other weekly, if life happens or you have an appointment clash that will not impede progress. We do need to keep up momentum, particularly at the start of therapy and you’ll need to make time for this.

I operate a 24 hour cancellation policy, which means, if you cancel within 24 hours of your appointment time or don’t turn up you will be charged for that session. Equally, if I cancel within 24 hours I will add a session onto your package by way of apology.

  • If the technology on either side lets us down on the day, we simply reschedule the appointment, no harm no foul. Whilst I make every effort to ensure a sturdy internet connection, we must accept that event the most robust systems can potentially not work. I presume the same of you. It’s unlikely (as in never happened to me before) but if it becomes an ongoing issue with your technology I can refer you to a face to face therapist near you and will help you find one.

  • Firstly, congratulations on taking the first step towards happiness. You’ll need a private room and time where you are unlikely to be disturbed. Good enough internet connection and a device that has a microphone and camera enabled. Laptop, desktop, mobile phone and tablet are all suitable. You can use headphones if you choose to.

I send out a unique link for each session and you are welcome to test it and make sure your system is set up and running well.

  • Yes, research has shown that online therapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy and I’ve successfully worked with people online for almost as long as I’ve been a therapist. In my experience the results are just as good and work just as quickly as the ones I had when I had a clinic room.

There are several benefits to online therapy, such as increased accessibility, convenience and comfort. Online therapy allows you to have therapy from the comfort of your own home, where you are in your own environment with your comforts around you.

It’s more convenient and accessible because you don’t need to add travel time, parking or even figure out how to get to me, we’re just the press of a button away.

However, it's important to note that online therapy may not be the best option for everyone. For example, individuals who have severe mental health concerns, such as severe suicidal ideation or severe psychosis, would not be suitable because it’s not safe. Additionally, some people simply prefer the personal interaction and face-to-face connection that in-person therapy provides. If it doesn’t bother you or even if you’re not sure, book the free consultation and you can find out.

  • No problem: sometimes we think we’re ready and then it doesn’t feel right. Cancel at least 24 hours before your first appointment and I will refund any fees you might have paid, in full. If you’re worried before your first appointment and would like extra reassurance or have further questions, please do get in touch, it’s perfectly OK. Most of the time, as soon as you’ve sat down for the first session things go great and you’ll be so glad you did.

  • The number of sessions of therapy depends on many factors such as the issue you are coming for help with, how well you engage with therapy and even what else you have going on in your life. However, what I can say is, most of the time for most things, except specific phobias, you can expect the results you want within 5-12 sessions of therapy. So just a few sessions over a few weeks can resolve sometimes decades of struggle.

I do not ‘prescribe’ the number of sessions; it is always your choice to continue therapy and I trust that you’re the best one to know when you’ve achieved what you set out to do.

  • The cost of your hypnotherapy depends how many sessions you have and whether you decide to buy single sessions or a package of sessions. Before you decide if hypnotherapy is right for you, we’ll have a 45-60 minute free online consultation, so you know you’re making the right decision if you decide to go ahead with regular therapy sessions.

The fees for hypnotherapy are £90 per session, or you can get a 5 session package for £400.

In recent years hypnotherapy has come under some private health insurance policies and you may be able to claim back some of your costs through your health insurance. If you run your own business you may be able to claim sessions as a business cost. We’ll discuss the best option for you at your free online initial consultation.
